Shane J. Quiterio, MD, PhD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician at Penn Highlands Huntingdon and Penn Highlands Tyrone. Dr. Quiterio holds both an MD and a PhD, and he has nearly two decades of experience in emergency medicine. He has practiced throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, and he is a highly published specialist. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Del. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Quiterio's published research includes cryptococcus neoformans, cytomegalovirus, and pneumocystis jiroveci (PCP) pneumonia; pinworms and varicella/chicken pox; PMA-induced differentiation of a bone marrow progenitor cell line activates HIV-1 LTR-driven transcription; C/EBP- and Tat-mediated activation of the HIV-1 LTR in CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells; identification and characterization of C/EBP cis-acting elements in the simian immunodeficiency virus long terminal repeat, and much more. Dr. Quiterio was selected to be part of a fully funded NIH Medical Scientist Training program and has served in leadership positions multiple medical associations, including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
