The Emergency Departments at Penn Highlands offer 24/7 care and immediate access to specialty care for heart, stroke, brain injuries, neonatal intensive care, trauma and severe abdominal pain. Dr. Carlheim has conducted research in topics related to emergency care, as well as the pathological process of Rasmussen's encephalitis, trace-amine-associated receptors and EMRA antibiotics. In addition, she has published research on emergency department chief complaint as a marker of length of stay in synthetic cannabinoid toxicity.
